Our Story

St Richard’s was built in 1954 and served the community of Hollingdean for decades before its doors closed as a worshipping community for 13 years. But in 2021, a small group of people felt called to reopen its doors and plant a new church—a place where everyone feels welcome, where faith is explored, and where strangers become family.

From those early days of gathering in a nearly empty hall with just a few chairs, we’ve grown into a vibrant, diverse community, where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to worship, connect, and serve. Today, St Richard’s is a place where you can grab breakfast before worship at Café Church, find support at the Support Café, let your kids play at the Play Café, or simply come as you are and feel at home.

Our heart is to be a light in the heart of Hollingdean, making Jesus known and extending His love to all. That story is still being written — and there’s always room for you.

We want everyone to feel at home and to be part of all that’s happening here. If you’re new to the area or thinking about trying church, maybe even for the first time, then we’d love to meet you.
